The basics
What Balloon Columns, Towers and Pillars Are
Columns, towers, pillars and posts all describe one thing: balloons stacked up a pole that stands on a weighted base.
Since a column needs nothing to lean on, it can go almost anywhere: on both sides of a front door, at each end of a stage, down an aisle, at the corners of a dance floor or next to a conference booth. Most stand 5 to 8 feet tall, which makes them the easiest way to add height to a room without hanging a thing from the ceiling.
Columns are also the budget-friendly way to mark an entrance. A pair costs less than a full balloon arch, and if you want more later, a garland can join the tops into an arch, the pairing schools and stores have relied on for years.
Column styles
Balloon Column Styles
The pole and base never change. The pattern built around them does.
Classic stacked columns
Four-balloon clusters packed tightly up the pole, either all one color or in solid bands. It's bold, tidy and the lowest-cost column we build.
Spiral balloon columns in two, three or four colors
Shift the colors one position in each cluster and they wind up the column like a candy stripe. Two colors look clean, three colors (say, red, white and blue for a Fourth of July block party) are the most popular, and four colors suit rainbow and team themes.
Organic balloon columns
Loose clusters of mixed sizes give a fuller, softer column that matches an organic arch or garland. Because they take more balloons, they cost more than classic columns. Couples and shower hosts tend to choose this style.
Themed and novelty columns
A column can become a character or an object: a crayon or pencil for back-to-school, a pine tree for a camping party, a snowman for a winter party, a rocket for a space birthday, a candy column for a sweets table. Themed columns are a fun fit for school hallways and kids' parties.

Toppers
Balloon Columns With Numbers and Toppers
The topper is the part that tells everyone what you're celebrating.
- Number toppers: a 34- or 40-inch foil number for an age, an anniversary or a class year. These are the columns we're asked for most.
- Stars, hearts and crowns: foil shapes that suit grads, Valentine's parties and quinceañeras.
- Bubble balloon toppers: a clear bubble filled with confetti or feathers.
- Grad caps and diplomas: a natural finish for senior nights and grad parties.
- Logo or letter panels: for company events and store openings.
Sizing
Column Heights and How Many Balloons Each One Uses
A standard column stands about 6 feet, with the topper on top of that.
| Column | Height | Balloons (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Mini or tabletop | 2–3 ft | 12–20 |
| Standard classic or spiral | 5–6 ft | 40–60 (11-inch) |
| Tall classic | 7–8 ft | 60–80 (11-inch) |
| Organic | 5–7 ft | 60–100+ (mixed sizes) |
Counts cover the body of the column. The topper, base and any clusters at the foot add a few more.
What size balloon is used for a column? Mostly 11-inch latex in four-balloon clusters, which makes a column roughly 18–20 inches wide. Organic columns mix in 5-inch and 17- to 18-inch balloons for texture.
Pricing
How Much Do Balloon Columns Cost in Denver?
A single column usually runs $110–$275, depending on the style and the topper.
| Column | Starting at |
|---|---|
| Mini tabletop column | $60 |
| Classic column | $110 |
| Spiral column (2–4 colors) | $130 |
| Themed column (graduation, holiday) | $165 |
| Organic column | $195 |
| Balloon tower with number or star topper | $210 |
Prices are per column, delivered and set in place within about 30 miles of downtown Denver.
What does a pair of balloon columns cost? Most entrances take two, so plan on roughly $220–$550 for the pair, depending on style. Pairs are priced below two singles, and joining them with an arch costs less than ordering both pieces separately.
Placement
Where Balloon Columns Go
Columns look their best in pairs, framing something worth looking at.
Entrances
On both sides of a front door, a venue door or a shop entrance, so nobody has to hunt for the party.
Stages and DJ booths
One at each end of a stage or DJ table puts the speaker or the band inside a frame in every photo.
Wedding aisles
Short columns along the aisle, or a tall pair where the couple stands, indoors or at a mountain-view ceremony site.
Dance floors
At the corners of the floor, sometimes linked overhead by a garland canopy.
Trade show booths
Brand-color columns help a booth stand out from down the aisle at a convention or expo.
Gyms and school halls
Rows of school-color columns for graduations, prom, homecoming and senior night.
Occasions
When Denver Hosts Book Balloon Columns
Columns are busiest in May, when metro high schools and colleges graduate, but they fit almost any event.
- Graduation: towers in school colors crowned with a cap, a star or the year, at backyard grad parties, proms and senior nights.
- Weddings and bridal showers: soft organic columns in ivory, gold or blush marking the aisle and the reception door.
- Birthdays: a tower topped with the big number, whether the guest of honor is turning one or sixty.
- Gender reveals: pink and blue columns crowned with a question mark.
- Company events and expos: columns in your brand palette for booths, lobbies and ribbon cuttings.
- Game days and holidays: orange and navy for football season, plus Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter and the 4th of July.
- Quinceañeras and sweet 16s: columns on each side of the court's entrance.
Outdoor columns
Outdoor Balloon Columns in Denver Weather
Columns are tall and top-heavy, so the ones that stand outside are built for wind.
- Outdoor columns get heavier bases and are tied off to a railing, post or fence whenever one is close by.
- Air-filled columns hold up far longer outside than helium ones, and helium tops have less lift at our altitude anyway.
- Shade matters: strong high-altitude sun fades and pops latex within hours, and dark colors heat up first.
- Summer storms can bring sudden gusts by mid-afternoon, so we place columns where the building blocks the wind and plan a spot to move them under cover.
Longevity
How Long Does a Balloon Column Last?
Several days indoors. A few hours in full summer sun.
Indoors at room temperature, an air-filled column holds up for several days and often a week. Outdoors in shade it lasts about a day, and in direct summer sun expect it to cloud and pop within a few hours. For indoor events we can deliver columns a day or two early, which helps with early-morning graduations, school assemblies and Sunday-morning church events.

Questions
Balloon Columns in Denver: FAQ
How much do balloon columns cost?
Our classic columns start at $110 each, spiral columns at $130, organic columns at $195 and towers with a number or star topper at $210. Most entrances use a pair.
How many balloons does one column take?
A classic 5–6 ft column uses about 40–60 11-inch balloons and a 7–8 ft column about 60–80. Organic columns take 60–100 or more in mixed sizes.
Which balloon sizes go into a column?
Mostly 11-inch latex in clusters of four. Organic columns mix 5-, 11- and 17–18-inch balloons.
How long does a balloon column last?
Indoors and air-filled, several days. Outside in the shade, roughly a day. In full summer sun at our altitude, just a few hours.
How early can columns be delivered before an event?
One to two days ahead for indoor events. Outdoor columns in summer should be set up the same day.
Are balloon columns, towers and pillars different things?
Nothing that matters. All three names describe a freestanding stack of balloons on a pole and weighted base. People often say tower when the column has a big topper.
Can I get a number topper on a balloon column?
Yes. A 34- or 40-inch foil number is the most requested topper, for birthdays, anniversaries and graduation years.
Do balloon columns need helium?
No. A column is filled with air and supported by its pole and weighted base. Helium only comes in if you want a floating topper or bubble balloon.
Can balloon columns stand outside in the wind?
Yes, with heavier bases and ties to something solid. On rooftops and near the foothills, where gusts are stronger, we place them in the most sheltered spot available.
