The basics

What Is a Balloon Wall?

A balloon wall covers a whole surface, usually 6 to 10 feet across, so it works as a backdrop all by itself.

An arch frames a spot and a garland follows a line, but a balloon wall fills the entire area. It stands on its own frame or grid, so you can set it in front of any wall and use it as a photo backdrop, a stage background, a wall behind the dessert table or a branded backdrop for a company event. See our balloon arch and balloon garland pages if you want something lighter.

For the space it takes, nothing in balloon decor has more impact. Walls work for birthdays, weddings, graduation parties, gender reveals, holiday parties and corporate events, and every photo comes out clean because no part of the room peeks through.

Wall styles

Types of Balloon Walls We Build

Five ways to build a balloon wall, each with its own look and price point.

Organic balloon walls

Organic walls cover the frame in mixed balloon sizes, so the surface looks soft, puffy and full of shadow. It's the richest style and the one couples and shower hosts pick most often for weddings, showers and milestone birthdays. It also uses the most balloons, which puts it at the top of the price range.

Grid and link balloon walls

Grid walls are made from linking balloons tied together into a net, which lines the balloons up in neat rows. You'll also hear them called quick link or link walls. Rows make patterns easy: a checkerboard, a stripe, a heart, a number. They look sharp in brand and team colors, from a company's palette to Nuggets navy and gold.

Framed balloon walls

A framed wall packs balloons inside a shaped frame: a rectangle, an arched chiara shape or a circle. The outline does half the styling. Arched tops feel elegant, squares feel modern and rings feel playful.

Foil and mylar balloon walls

Foil walls use mylar shapes like hearts, stars or squares in metallic finishes. They bounce light, look great on camera and contain no latex, which matters for guests with allergies and for hospitals, schools and venues that don't allow latex.

Floating and lighted balloon walls

A floating wall uses rows of helium balloons tied down on ribbons, so it sways a little in the air. It looks striking but doesn't last long, and at Denver's altitude helium has less lift to work with, so we keep floating walls to a few hours and use larger balloons. For night events, string lights or LED balloons can be woven into any wall.

Sizing

Choosing a Balloon Wall Size

Choose by the photo you have in mind. An 8×8 ft wall fits six to eight people in a group shot.

Balloon wall sizes and what they suit
SizeFitsGood to know
6×6 ftCouples, small groups, a dessert tableWorks in condos, basements and restaurant rooms
8×8 ftGroup photos, a cake table with guests around itOur most requested size
8×10 ftStages, head tables, branded backdropsNeeds roughly 9 ft of ceiling
Custom widthsLong walls, stages, shop windowsBuilt in panels and joined on-site

A grid wall of 11-inch link balloons uses about 1.2–1.5 balloons per square foot, and an organic wall takes two to four times as many. Check the ceiling, especially in a basement, and leave 2–3 ft of floor in front for photos.

Uses

Ways to Use a Balloon Wall

A wall earns its floor space by doing more than one job.

Balloon photo wall

The spot for selfies and group shots. Add a name in vinyl or a marquee age and guests line up for it.

Dessert and cake table backdrop

Set behind the cake, it keeps photos clean and hides whatever is behind the table.

Stage and head-table background

For toasts, DJs, award moments and wedding head tables.

Branded backdrop

A grid wall in company colors with a logo panel for launches, galas and conference booths.

Room divider

Screens off a catering area, a bar setup or a storage corner in a rented hall or brewery event room.

Gender reveal moment

A neutral wall with a hidden panel, or a wall that turns pink or blue on the reveal side.

Occasions

Which Events Book Balloon Walls

These are the events that book balloon walls most.

  • Birthdays: walls for kids' parties and 18th, 21st and 30th birthdays, often with the age or a name built in.
  • Weddings and bridal showers: ivory, champagne and blush organic walls behind the sweetheart table or at the reception door.
  • Graduations and prom: grid walls in school colors with the class year, plus glam walls for prom photos.
  • Gender reveals and baby showers: neutral walls with a reveal moment, or soft pastel walls for the shower.
  • Valentine's Day: shiny foil-heart walls in red, hot pink and rose gold.
  • Christmas and New Year's Eve: red, green and gold walls, and black, gold and silver chrome for the countdown.
  • Cinco de Mayo and quinceañeras: bright red, green and white walls, or her colors with chrome accents.
  • Corporate events: branded walls for openings, galas and conferences downtown or in the Tech Center.

Installation

Our No-Damage Balloon Wall Setup

Simple: nothing we bring gets attached to your walls.

Each balloon wall we build stands on a weighted frame of its own. At home that protects your paint from tape and glue dots, and at downtown hotels, breweries and event halls it keeps us inside rules that usually forbid tape, nails and adhesives. A freestanding wall can also slide a few feet on the day if the room plan changes.

  1. 1

    Measure

We check the wall size, ceiling height, outlets for lights and the route from the door, including stairs and elevators.

  2. 2

    Build

Big walls go up in panels that are joined on-site, then fluffed until the seams vanish.

  3. 3

    Finish

Vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last, then we look at it from where the photos will be taken.

What's the best way to hang balloons on a wall? In front of the wall on a frame, not stuck to it. If you do hang balloons directly, use removable hooks and fishing line instead of tape, and test any adhesive in a hidden spot first.

Longevity

How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?

Inside, an air-filled wall keeps for days. A floating helium wall is measured in hours.

An air-filled organic or grid wall in a room-temperature space keeps its shape for several days, and often a week. Foil walls outlast both. Floating helium walls begin to sag within hours, a little sooner at altitude. Outside, put the wall in shade and build it the same day: strong high-altitude sun clouds latex quickly, and a wall catches wind like a sail, so outdoor walls get heavy bases and a backup spot under cover.

Questions

Balloon Walls in Denver: FAQ

What is a balloon wall?

It's a solid panel of balloons on its own frame, typically 6 to 10 feet across, that serves as a photo backdrop, a stage background or the wall behind a dessert table. Organic, grid, framed and foil are the main styles.

How much does a balloon wall cost?

Our foil walls start at $110 for 8×5 ft, grid walls at $395 and organic walls at $575 for 8×8 ft, delivered and set up near Denver. Size, style and add-ons set the final price.

How long do balloon walls last?

Several days indoors when air-filled, often about a week. Foil walls last longer. Floating helium walls last a few hours, and outdoor walls in full summer sun last only hours.

What size balloon wall do I need?

Most people choose 8×8 ft, which fits a cake table or a group shot. Go 6×6 ft for a smaller room or a couple, and 8×10 ft or a custom width for stages and head tables.

Will a balloon wall damage my walls?

No. Each wall is freestanding on a weighted frame set in front of yours, so nothing is taped, nailed or glued to the paint.

What do you call a wall made of linked balloons?

A grid wall or link wall. Linking balloons are tied together into a net, which makes rows, patterns, numbers and logos possible.

Can I have an outdoor balloon wall in Denver?

Yes, with a plan. Outdoor walls are air-filled, set on heavy weighted bases, placed in shade and built the same day, with a covered backup spot in case an afternoon storm rolls in.

Can a balloon wall be latex-free?

Yes. Foil (mylar) walls are latex-free and the right choice for guests with latex allergies and venues that don't allow latex.
